"Clash of Civilizations Thesis is Passé"
Have not found time to write Part 2, but I thought this article was interesting.

Hm... But his using himself as an archetype only goes so far, unless I'm misinterpreting the idea of clashes of civilizations. Most of humanity won't have the kinds of experiences that Thakur has had. I'm sure every one of us can name more friends with a less diverse or more homogeneous background than the alternative. Even immigrant biculturalism seems to potentially stand in opposition to what he's arguing, so long as people care enough about a certain identity.
Doesn't that leave the clash of civilizations thesis, passé though it might be, still relevant to the majority of the world who don't carry four passports?
Apropos of nothing, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year etc.
I'd say the same thing as Jarrett -- his experience (which mirrors mine) is that of, say, a 19th century aristocrat.
Great lifestyle, but not all that representative of the norm.
